Reading
One 50 @ Bar Oz (more info)
Station Hill (right opposite the station), Reading

Admission: £1.50 Every Sunday 8pm - 12pm
Venue: Nightclub
Music: Rock / Metal / Punk / Alternative
Facilities: There is a pool table, vid games, lots of seating, cloackroom and a good sized dancefloor.
Review: The atmosphere is very good here and makes it easy to socilise.
Other: This is a new night which has just started so the more support we get from the rock scene the better a night it will be! I've always found Sunday a really boring day and now there is a rock/alternative night on this day! So things are getting better. It's very cheap here as all beer is £1:50 and also on certain bottled beer. I've made quite a few friends here so it would be great to meet more people. There is a lot of variety on the music played, heavy metal, Nu-metal, rock, death metal, some cheese played plus a bit of punk, and some goth tunes. The djs are very good if you want any requests played.

Reading
Naked Truth (more info)
Chatham Street, Reading RG1 (map)
Tel: 01410 370986

Admission: £2 B4 10, £3 after Friday 9pm - 2am
Venue: Nightclub
Drinks: Cheap
Review: You go up the stairs and all is black, apart from the huge white twisted faces painted on the walls. There is a big dancefloor in the middle, in front of which is the stage, and down the side is the balcony seating. The bar is opposite the stage. Downstairs is a dance club, so later on in the night, Naked Truths DJs, whom everyone in Reading seems to know, will play the Spice Girls to take the piss! More importantly, he plays My Dying Bride, Clawfinger, In The Woods... - undergound and mainstream stuff. I went to the opening night which was advertised by word of mouth. The atmosphere is similar to hanging out at a friends place. A fresh view on clubbing in Reading - people should check it out!

Reading
The PussyCat Club @ Po Na Na (more info)
Duke Street, Reading

Admission: Free before 10, £2/£3 after Mondays 9pm - 2am (last entry at 1)
Venue: Nightclub
Music: Retro / Rock / Alternative / indie, soul, funk, 60s, britpop.
Facilities: dancefloor, comfy lounge areas, bar.
Review: Something new is happening on Monday nights in Reading. A cool club is in town. It's called the Pussycat Club and you'll find it at Po Na Na every Monday... The Strokes / Bob Marley / Aretha Franklin / Blur / Stevie Wonder Jurassic 5 / Beck / Beastie Boys / Rolling Stones / The Strokes The Wannadies / Missey Elliot / James Brown / Bob Marley / The Specials The Pussycat Club DJ's return every Monday supplying more of that exclusive mix of Indie, Funk, 60s Grooves, Hip Hop, Ska, Boogaloo Beats and anything else that fits into the melting pot. The atmosphere is fantastic. Always good to have another indie/rock night, but this one plays so much more. Music you just can't find anywhere else in Reading.
Other: It's completely and utterly free to get in before ten, and only two pounds afterwards - but if you fancy being flash, then we've got a limited number of guestlist places to give away for this coming Monday night. Wanna be on that list? No worries - email us and we will see what we can do: readingguestlist@thepussycatclub.co.uk

Other: The Church of Madness is Reading's weekly goth night, Thursdays sees a gathering of black and UV to listen and dance to the likes of VNV, Wolfsheim, Sisters and anything else you can think of that we may have (can't promise anything though). There is a weekly guest DJ so there's always something new to be heard.. inquiring minds like to know new things. Slough
Rock Night @ Pitcher's Sports Bar (more info)
High Street, Slough

Admission: Free Thursday 20:00 - 01:00
Venue: Pub
Music: Rock / Metal / Punk / Alternative
Facilities: Pool table
Review: The bouncers aren't very friendly, but otherwise it's a sweet night - the DJ's friendly and has a strange affinity for punk covers of pretty much anything, the tunes are all good and the turnout is always pretty high. There isn't a dancefloor as such, but if you feel the need then space can usually be found
Other: Extended license! Rock till the early hours and you don't have to pay a penny (plus all the townies have gone home so you get a hassle-free trip home)

Review: “Handsome Pete” He couldn’t be more off the scale, an indulgement of ear-renching noise that continuosly reverbrates over a casio bossa nova beat beat. Annoyingly it sounds really good. Stupid lyrics, crazy stage presence and a blatant disregard for not disturbing the peace was just what the night needed. There’s no need to be afraid of messing up a solo or dropping lyrics anymore, Handsome Pete has made it safe for us all to be completely rubbish and still sound good. He had us in fits of laughter and people were even dancing outside. During the noise, the smoke machine set off the fire alarm, Handsome Pete used it to his advantage and played around it, we all thought it added more depth to the overall sound and it’s now a permanent part of his set. “3 litre” Songs about Cats where the main lyrics are Meow has to be a winner. Not even the FOO’s or Greenday could pull that off and 3 litre did, nice one. Flying V’s and drummers standing on stools whilst playing all adds to a very full sound, these guys don’t stand still for a moment. Confidence oozed and the playing was tight. Soundcheck was a well rehearsed “Danny Boy” (drawing a tear from the celtic barmaids) and some song about a donkey – we’ll leave that one out, it’s a family show. The sound was full, fresh and the set was well ordered and practiced. I will try and see 3 litre again as I’d like to see how they progress. The Drummer was playing for Daft the next night and he was just as good. Well done top band “Sensus” The everstrong Sensus performed like a finely tuned engine. Pete’s last gig as the drummer before he goes off to start a family with new Wife, Congratulations guys. He just wants to start a family band at least that’s what I think. The projected backdrop gave a great mood and the lighting worked well. Opening with Eat Less Move More was a great idea I love that track. Copper Beeches has seen so many bands it’s scary and I hate to say it but I think they now have the best version of it ever. I’m going to get a bootleg live recording next time so I can add it to all the other versions I have and compare it properly but I don’t think I’ll change my mind. Pete’s drumming is a huge watermark that the next drummer is going to have to perform some miracles to compete. You’ll be sorely missed Pete, You’ve got a great talent. These boys know what they’re doing and if they say the next drummer can kick it, he can kick it. The set was punchy, and tight like a Scottish prize fighter, I enjoyed the slick changes and energy that Sensus always have. Well done Boys you did it again. Big thanks to Henry for the hardest job of the night “sound” get him a pint he’ll look after you when you’re playing – nuff said ? Simon Wood Musicpoll 03 -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We (ninesigns) would like thank Darren and Henry for a great night last week. The sound they produced was great and I'd recommend the night to anyone looking to show off their band in front of lights, smoke and graphics! Its refreshing to see a venue so focused to helping local bands. ------------------ HIya mate, Oh man, what a great night. You really did have a great mix of bands. Kept us on our toes for sure. Superb atmosphere. The sound was so good. really clear and loud too. Cool.Lights and smoke and projectors all added to the night. Probably one of the best nights we have had. Lots of energy in the room before hand and a lot of love in the room afterwards. Thanks for giving us the oppurtunity to come and play. I'd have driven 10 hours for a gig that good. Checked out the photos as soon as I got home. Your photographer really captured some great shots, I will try and get some up on the site today and will probably write up a review of the night too. All plugs and links back to yourselves will be added, of course. Wish you luck with the imminent management change at the pub. Hope you can keep the club going. Once again, thank you to you both for making the evening so great. Hopefully see you again sometime soon, Cheers, Veg www.barefoot-music.co.uk

Slough
Alternative Night @ Tavern in the Town (more info)
high street, Slough

Admission: free Tuesday 19:00 - 23:00
Venue: Pub
Music: Rock / Metal / Alternative
Facilities: The pub is surprisingly big ,it has area with sofas , pool tables and toilets which are up two flights of steps.(slightly irritating if you are drunk). All the drinks are extremely cheap.bottles are mostly 99p.you can't argue with that can you.
Review: It is a very laid back night out - with no doormen only one bouncer who weeds out troublemakers inside.
Other: You can bring along cd's and request whatever tracks you want. Everyone is friendly. Its a shame this is on a tuesday instead of a friday or saturday.
